چکیده

Method Male Wistar rats (300 ± 50g) were anesthetized and, after left thoracotomy, MI was induced by ligation of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary. Sham rats were submitted only to thoracotomy. One week thereafter, MI rats were randomly submitted to left (LS) or bilateral (BS) sympathectomy by chemical ablation of stellate ganglion. Eight weeks after LAD ligation, the ventricular function was evaluated by conductance microcatheter technique. Stroke work (SW), cardiac output (CO), systolic volume (SV), end-systolic volume (ESV), end-diastolic volume (EDV), ejection fraction (EF) and dP/dt max were determined at baseline and after stimulation with dobutamine. Infarct size was determined by epicardial and endocardial infarct arc lengths.

Melusin protects from cardiac rupture and improves functional remodelling after myocardial infarction.

AIMS Melusin is a muscle-specific chaperone protein whose expression is required for a compensatory hypertrophy response to pressure overload. Here, we evaluated the consequences of melusin overexpression in the setting of myocardial infarction (MI) using a comprehensive multicentre approach. METHODS AND RESULTS Mice overexpressing melusin in the heart (TG) and wild-type controls (WT) were su...

Cardioprotective effects of adenosine within the border and remote areas of myocardial infarction

BACKGROUND Adenosine may have beneficial effects on left ventricular function after myocardial infarction (MI), but the magnitude of this effect on remote and MI areas is controversial. We assessed the long-term effects of adenosine after MI using electrocardiogram-triggered 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography. METHODS Wistar rats were subjected to coronary ligation and rando...

Raised diastolic pressure as an early predictor of left ventricular remodeling after infarction: should echocardiography or natriuretic peptides be used for assessment?

Full English text available from: www.revespcardiol.org “Risk” after myocardial infarction classically means risk of cardiac death or re-infarction; other adverse events can be included in the end-point such as hospitalization due to recurrent ischemia, new atrial fibrillation, embolic events, and others. However, the most important adverse “event” next to death and re-infarction is the develop...

Right ventricular dilatation after left ventricular acute myocardial infarction is predictive of extremely high peri-infarctual apoptosis at postmortem examination in humans.

BACKGROUND Cardiac remodelling after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is characterised by molecular and cellular mechanisms involving both left and right ventricles, and biventricular failure identifies patients with an extremely unfavourable prognosis. AIMS To assess whether a link exists between increased myocardial apoptotic rates (AR) at sites of recent infarction and patterns of unfavou...

Relevance of matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors after myocardial infarction: a temporal and spatial window.

The post-myocardial infarction wound repair process involves temporarily overlapping phases that include inflammation, formation of granulation tissue, scar formation, and overall left ventricle (LV) remodelling. The myocardial extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role in maintaining the structural and functional integrity of the heart and is centrally involved in wound repair post-myo...
